
Dr. Ikhlaq Ahmed received his Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees from the Centre for West Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He completed his MA in Political Science from Aligarh Muslim University and his BA from the University of Jammu. His doctoral thesis explored the democratization and politics of opposition in Arab Republics, with a particular emphasis on Syria. He examined the evolution, rise, and decline of the opposition movement before the Arab Uprising, as well as the emergence of new opposition during the civil war in Syria. In addition, Dr. Ahmed’s research interests cover the Geopolitics of West Asia, West Asia in Global Politics, India’s West Asia Policy, India-GCC Relations, the United States’ West Asia Policy, Political Islam, Arab Intellectual Tradition, and Sufism.
