TheDaak is very happy to announce that we are expanding through the introduction of new verticals. The ‘Fiction Friday’ vertical welcomes reviews of books published in the fiction category. We invite reviews of various genres of fiction books that may relate to science fiction, romance, drama, literature, horror, mystery, crime, thriller and suspense, children’s literature, magic/ fantasy, among others. Through this vertical, we aim to include the diverse interests of book readers to engage in meaningful discussions through their reviews. So let your creative juices flow!
We plan to publish one review a month. We encourage book reviews which are reflective and written with hitherto unexplored point(s) of view. We do not necessarily review recently published books (contributions from your old stacks are most welcome).
The following guidelines must be followed for writing the review:
- Book reviews should ideally be 1200-1500 words. In case where the piece demands more, we are willing to make exceptions but as a matter of rule, we may ask you to revise your writing to fit the word limit.
- We do not publish mere summaries of books. It is desirable that the contributor refrains from divulging the entire plot of the book and maintains a clear distinction between the author’s voice and their own reading of the book.
- We accept original contributions that have not been published or accepted to be published elsewhere.
- We request that the details of the book under review should be added to the MS Word file itself in the following manner: [Book: Title by author, place, publisher, year, pages, dimensions, ISBN, price]
- The review should follow the Author-Date system of Chicago Style of Citations. The contributor should use in-text citations and reference list at the end of the review, if needed. For further information please look at: Author-Date: Sample Citations
Receipt of submissions is acknowledged by e-mail within a week. However, the acknowledgment of receipt is not a guarantee of publication.
Each submission will go through a double-blind peer review process and the decision for the same would be communicated to the contributor.
Any edits and revisions to the contributions would be made/asked to be made with the prior consent of the contributor.
TheDaak has no objection to authors republishing or revising their articles for other publications. However, the re-published article must mention that the book review first appeared at TheDaak with the website link.
Elsewhere, no published article on TheDaak or part thereof should be reproduced by any third party in any form without prior permission of the author(s) at TheDaak.
The submissions can be sent at submission@thedaak.in in an editable MS Word file format inclusive of the contributor’s name, email address for correspondence, and one-line contributor note stating current designation and affiliation.
For any further queries or discussion, please write to us at editor@thedaak.in We would be happy to engage with you.
